MANILA, Philippines - Budget carrier AirAsia was the world's most "tweeted" airline in February, according to a report by Eezeer.com.

Eezeer.com, a web and mobile social network that feature tweets and location-verified reviews related to travel, AirAsia nearly doubled the number of "mentions" on Twitter in February.

It received almost 23,000 mentions in February, compared to 13,500 in January.

This was ahead of US-based airlines Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.

AirAsia, which has official Twitter accounts in various countries, has a total of 514,852 followers.

In the Eezeer.com report, AirAsia topped two categories: "Best in Class" and "Airline Listening Champions."

"Best in class" means it was the top performing airline brand with the greatest number of all the tweets exchanged between an airline and its consumers.

As "Airline Listening Champions", AirAsia received the most tweets from consumers.

The Eezeer.com report also included AirAsia as the top 3 airlines in the "Airline Talking Champions" category for having sent the most tweets to consumers.

AirAsia’s Regional Head of Commercial, Kathleen Tan said AirAsia embraces social media.

"Through social media, AirAsia enables fans to communicate directly with us, where we listen to their feedback, attend to their queries and of course, give them a convenient platform to voice their thoughts and share ideas," she said, in a statement.

"From management to executives, social media is an important part in any communication, and when an effort as such is strongly championed by the top management at AirAsia, it further improves the social media experience for both the team and the fans.

AirAsia Allstars, including our Group CEO Tony Fernandes and senior management are active on Twitter," Tan added.
